Scaffolding fitted on the gable end of a property in Esher for decorating works

Project type:  Scaffolding for painting and decorating.

Site location: Winterdown Road, Esher, Surrey, KT10.

Customer needs: We were asked to provide a quotation for a scaffold to be erected to the side only of a 2-storey property in Winterdown Road, Esher. This structure was needed for painting and decoration works. We included a 4-week hire period within our quotation.

Obstacles and challenges we needed to resolve: The space between this house and the neighbouring property was relatively small, so there was not enough room for the upright tubes to be placed on the ground, so our scaffolders bridged over the small lean-to/extension that was adjoined to the left-hand side of the property so that our customer could gain access to the wall above this.

What we accomplished:

• Our scaffolders erected an approximate 16-metre-long structure that was 4 metres high.
• This featured 2 scaffold lifts, with the top lift being a fully boarded working platform.
• To bridge over the lean-to, we used one scaffold lattice beam to add additional support to the framework because the upright tubes would not fit down the side where the small extension was situated.
• The finished working platform was 5 scaffolding boards wide.
• Ladder access was also provided.
• A ladder gate was fixed at the end of the working platform.
• Double handrails were connected around the edge of the top lift.
• Also, toe boards were secured to the bottom of this working area to prevent falls and equipment from being knocked over the edge.

Length of hire: This decorator’s scaffold was needed for a rental period of 4 weeks, as this gave our customer plenty of time to paint the side of the house.
