We were approached by a customer who needed scaffolding on 2 sides of a 3-storey shopfront in Esher, as they wanted to undertake rendering and roof repairs to the building. We quoted our client £1150 plus £168 for the council’s pavement licence fee, which covered 4 weeks, matching the scaffolding rental period.
This was a high street job, so our Surrey scaffolding erectors took extra precautions while erecting and dismantling the scaffold in a public area. We installed additional safety measures on the scaffolding to keep passers-by safe.
We were required to erect scaffolding to the front and side elevations of this shop, measuring 8m along the front and 7m along the side. Both sides were roughly 8.0 metres high to reach the roofline, so we erected 4 scaffolding lifts.
The scaffolding at the front of the shop was for roof access only. We installed high-visibility foam at the bottom of the upright tubes, and placed the base plates on plastic tredda plates. The first lift and top fourth lift were fully boarded and double handrailed with toe boards. The top working platform also had debris netting installed around the perimeter to help prevent anything falling from height and potentially injuring a pedestrian.
The scaffolding on the side of this building was needed for rendering works and access to the roof, so each scaffold lift was fully boarded 6 boards wide, with safety guardrails and kicker boards around the platforms. Full ladder access was provided throughout, and a small section of beam work was installed on the base lift to avoid any standards (upright tubes) being placed in the way of the drop kerb, which we were required to keep clear. The top working lift also had debris netting around the perimeter. We installed foam around the bottom sections of the standards to protect the public.
At the very top of this side section, access was also required to reach the apex of the roof, so we installed a 2.4m long table lift for safe access.
This project shows the access platforms we erect for external building maintenance, repointing, and roofing work on local properties.
