This loft conversion required a fully sheeted temporary roof with boarded working lifts, giving contractors protected access around the property. This type of temporary roof and access scaffold forms part of our Woking scaffolding services, which include structures for loft conversions, roof replacements, extensions, and other residential building work.

The customer needed a tin hat cover to keep their property dry while a new loft conversion was installed. We supplied a quotation to install a temporary roof around 3 sides of this 2-storey semi-detached property. The price for this structure was £8020, including a 28-day hire period.
We had no issues erecting this scaffold. However, the customer asked us to keep the drive clear so that the homeowner could still park their car on the drive whilst the building works were being undertaken. This was not a problem, as our scaffolders built the base/first lift at the front using doubled-up 6.0m lattice beams to support this section of the structure, so no tubes were placed on the ground and the drive remained clear.
Our skilled scaffolders erected this structure as follows:
Front section: They built a framework 5.0 metres long, 1.5m wide, and 8.0m high, totalling 4 scaffold lifts. Our team installed a fully boarded working lift, 6 scaffolding planks wide.
Side elevation: The side of the property was longer, so our team erected a 13.0-metre-long scaffold that was only 1.0m wide (3 scaffold boards); this allowed our upright standards to fit down the side of the small alleyway without encroaching on the neighbour’s boundary. This elevation was also 8.0m high.
Back: The rear of the framework was similar to the front at 5.0m long with a 1.5m width. However, the scaffolding on this elevation of the house was 9.0 metres high and totalled 5 scaffolding lifts, which was 1 metre higher than the front to create a slant on the roof so that water could run off the roof cover.
Neighbour’s side:
A separate scaffolding framework was installed to attach the mono flex sheeting on the side where there was no scaffold above the party wall, as the property is semi-detached. This was approximately a 13m span over the neighbour’s roof, so we used 450mm beams.
We provided a scaffold rental period of 4 weeks, which our customer was happy with, as they were confident their work would not exceed this period.
