Our customer needed access to the external part of an orangery extension to complete the roof installation. They also requested a price for a birdcage scaffold to be situated inside the new extension so the installers could safely fit the glass panels to the roof area. This combination of external access and an internal working platform is one of the many ways our domestic scaffolding can provide safe access for home extensions, roofing work and residential renovation projects.
We did not have any obstacles or challenges when erecting this scaffolding structure.
We first erected the exterior scaffolding so the orangery installers could complete the outside shell before adding the roof. We erected this scaffold around 3 sides, with 2 lifts, each approximately 25 metres long. The top lift was only 3m high so the client could access the orangery roof level. Both the lower scaffolding lift and the top lift were used as working platforms, so we built these 5 boards wide and added toe boards and double handrails around the perimeter to comply with health and safety regulations. Once this external scaffolding structure was complete, we built a 7 metre by 4 metre birdcage scaffold inside the orangery. This provided a safe working platform for the installers as they added the glass roof. We used 32 scaffold boards to create a fully boarded lift on top of the birdcage framework.
We rented both scaffolds to our customer for a 4-week hire period. Once they had completed the building works, our team removed the birdcage scaffold and then the external access platform shortly after.
