Site location: Old Portsmouth Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU3.

Customer needs: We were contacted to supply a quotation for a scaffold to the front, a small return to the left-hand side, and a small table lift at the right-hand side of this large detached 2-storey house in Guildford. This customer was undertaking various renovation and repair works which meant they required access to the guttering, all windows, and the masonry for painting. We gave a quote with a more extended rental period of 12 weeks.

Obstacles and challenges we needed to resolve: We did not face any issues when erecting or dismantling the scaffolding on this house. The building was pretty old, so our scaffolders had to take extra care when erecting the framework so that our equipment did not cause any damage.

What we Accomplished

• We erected an approximate 12-metre-long structure to the façade of this sizeable farm-style building.
• This section of scaffolding was approximately 4 metres high and had 2 scaffold lifts, with the second being a working platform. This was 6 scaffold boards wide and was built up to the bottom of the first-floor windows.
• Our scaffolders then erected a small scaffolding return on the left-hand elevation and, once complete, added a 2.4 metre-long hop-up, which was around 6 metres high from the floor. This meant the scaffolding on the left side was 3 lifts high by 6 boards wide.
• Our team then erected another small hop-up on the right-hand side of the house, meaning both ends were 3 lifts high, and the rest of the scaffolding was 2 lifts high.
• A total of three ladders were supplied and fixed to the scaffold.
• We also added safety ladder gates on each working lift as fall protection.
• Our team installed double handrails and toe boards around the bottom of each platform.

Length of hire: Our quotation included a hire period of 12 weeks. This gave our customer enough time to complete all of their repairs and renovation works to this property.
