Scaffolds to 4 sides of this Godalming property to provide access for painting the soffits, fascias and windows

Project type:  Scaffolding for access to windows, soffits and facias for painting.

Site location: Church Fields, Godalming, GU8.

Customer needs: This customer needed a structure around 4 sides of this large 2/3 storey property to paint all of the upper floor windows and the apexes. The scaffolding was approximately 180 linear metres with various returns and table lifts. This client was provided with a 4-week hire period within our price.

Obstacles and challenges we needed to resolve: We faced no problems erecting this structure as access to all sides of the building was pretty straightforward.

What we accomplished: Our scaffolders erected the following framework to provide safe access to 4 apex roof sections and dormer windows on various parts of the house.

We erected 2 lifts of scaffold around most of the perimeter of this property.

Front: This elevation of the property has several windows our customer needed to access the very top of. Our Surrey scaffolding erectors put up two scaffold platforms, both fully boarded with double handrails.

We then erected two table lifts to access another window and the top of the apex.

The left-hand side of the front of the building also returned slightly and required 2 lifts of scaffolding, plus a table lift to access another dormer window on the roof. This table lift was built by extending 8ft transoms as the roof steps in.

Sides: Both sides of this building were 2 lifts high and had hop-up lifts installed to reach the top of the gable ends. The right side of the property was a straight return from the front. The left-hand side hop-up was again erected using 8ft tubes as transoms and extending them into the roof.

Back: The back was a straight run with two lifts on the right-hand side. To the left was another apex roof with an additional dormer window setback. There was a large bay window below the apex, so we erected an 8.0-metre beam section placed above the 1^st-floor windows. We again used 8ft transoms to throw into the roof area and create a small table lift to gain further access to the dormer that was setback.

Other information

• In total, there were 6 table lifts installed on this structure.
• Ladder gates were installed throughout.
• Each working platform was 5-6 scaffold planks wide.
• All scaffolding platforms were installed with guard rails and fall protection.

Length of hire: A 4-week rental period was supplied to complete the painting works.
