Scaffolding for repair works on a river bank.

Our customer wanted a structure built in the river so that they could repair a section of the bank’s boards outside their property. As a local scaffolding contractor for Weybridge, our scaffolders designed the access structure around the unusual location and requirements of the work. We quoted the scaffolding at £700 with three weeks’ hire.
Our team’s only challenge was trying not to fall in! Access to this area of the water was through a private gated community. We had to walk the equipment from one end of the river to the other, which was at the back of our customer’s house. This was the only way we could access the area that needed scaffolding.
Our scaffolders erected a 6.0-metre structure with a single working lift, built approximately 1.2m below floor level. We built this access platform 3 scaffold boards wide and fitted toe boards and double handrails around the external perimeter to prevent anyone from falling into the water.
To secure the framework, we drilled Hilti ties into the concrete floor at the front of the bank and then placed a 6.0m tube through the Hilti ties. We then used this tube as a foot tie, which also acted as a ledger, with 1.6m structural transoms attached.
In the water, we fixed 5x 16ft tubes with 2ft butts attached to the bottom using double couplers to make an upside-down T, which acted as base plates in the water. These tubes formed our outside standards (uprights), which were attached to the structural transoms. Our team hung 1.8m tubes for the inside standards to complete the scaffolding platform.
We provided our customer with 3 weeks of hire to allow them to repair this area of the bank.
