Scaffolding for access to the windows, dormers and chimney on this property in Weybridge for maintenance work

Access for repairs, High Street, Weybridge

Site location: High Street, Weybridge, Surrey, KT13.

Customer needs: We were asked to provide a quotation to supply access to the front of this high street building in Weybridge so that general repair works could take place to the first floor and the dormers in the roof. We were also asked to provide a walkway to gain access to the stack on the left side of the roof. Our price was £2500, which included 4 weeks hire. We also applied for a pavement licence on behalf of the customer with the local council.

Obstacles and challenges we needed to resolve: This 2-storey building was on a busy high street, so our scaffolders were required to take extra safety precautions when working on a public pathway.

What we Accomplished

  • Our team began by erecting a scaffold to the front that measured approximately 9 metres wide by 6 metres high.
  • There were 3 lifts of scaffolding, with two being fully boarded.
  • Each working platform was 6 scaffold boards wide and featured safety handrails and toeboards.
  • We then erected a 4-metre throw-in that was roughly 8-9 metres from ground level; this was the walkway we provided for safely accessing the chimney.
  • This smaller structure was only 4 scaffolding boards wide and rested at the base of the chimney. We also installed double handrails and toeboards along the edge of this working lift.
  • Ladder gates were added throughout the scaffold.
  • Fixed ladder access was also provided.
  • Hi-viz foam was installed on all ground-level tubes.
  • Baseplates were placed in yellow plastic tredda plates for public safety.
  • Debris netting was the last thing we added to the structure to prevent equipment or debris falling from height.
 

Length of hire: Our quotation provided this customer with a rental period of 4 weeks to finish the maintenance and repair works. The pavement licence was also for 4 weeks.
