The builder contacted us on behalf of this customer, who needed a roof covering while they had a loft conversion built onto their existing property to create more space. A weatherproof temporary roof scaffold system covering was required to protect this part of the building from the elements and allow the builders to continue working without weather-related disruption, as there had been a lot of rain this year.
There were no major difficulties with this job apart from it being quite a windy day when installing the monarflex sheeting to the external perimeter of the structure.
The scaffold structure was erected by our local Guildford scaffolders, who built the large three-sided framework from the ground up around the area where the new loft conversion was to be situated. The 4th side of the temporary roof was a slightly smaller section and was installed on the existing property roof for complete coverage. We used aluminium beams at the top of the structure, ready to support the roof, which comprised approximately 40 x 10ft corrugated iron sheets to create the tin roof cover, and connected these sheets using roofing couplers so no holes were made in the CI sheets to avoid leaks. The first level was fully boarded and double handrailed, with protective toe-board edging installed. When fitting the roof cover, we ensured a slight tilt and that the sheets slightly overhung the framework so water would run off the roof and not into the building. We then installed monarflex sheeting to cover the whole outside area of the temporary roof framework so that it was fully protected from the wind and rain.
The builder required an 8-week hire period, which we negotiated into our price.
We used a similar weather-protection setup on this tin hat for a loft conversion in Woking, where lattice beams supported the corrugated roof covering and Monarflex sheeting enclosed the outer framework.
